There is a two week window in the summer when tomatoes are perfect.
A firefly is perfect in a smaller window.
In the photograph, the window isn’t made of glass.
I see you waving in a window of glass.
I enjoy breaking nothing but still

ICE DRUMMING HAS A SURPRISINGLY UNIQUE AND PLEASANT SOUND
Many Russian Ladies fell on the ice of Lake Baikal
and the sounds of the ladies against the ice was so beautiful
that ever since that day their husbands have come out to the ice
of Lake Baikal and performed beautiful and elaborate drum patterns
using their fingers on the ice much to the pleasure of ice fishers and farmers
and children and furry dogs who live in the small houses that line Lake Baikal
during the long and beautiful winters in this foreboding universe filled with ice
upon a planet that looks like ours that contains a Russia and a Lake Baikal also
a billion miles away from anything we know other than these few and beautiful
things: ice, fishing, dogs, husbands, wives, Russia.
POSTAGE STAMP
I must have read a story as a child
in which a small boy traveled the seas
on a postage stamp. Or as a small boy
I traveled the seas on a postage stamp.
As a small boy, the postage stamp
I knew had George Washington’s face
on it. And so I sailed the seas with George
Washington or I read a book without him
and wrote a letter all about the sea, and
a boat, to George Washington.
