Artists' Note: COLOR CODES (IV), the fourth in this series, is a collaboration between Marilyn R. Rosenberg and Ann R. Shapiro

A one of a kind artists' book in two volumes A (accordion) and C (codex), 2016, loosely based on Charles A. Riley II's book Color Codes. The bookworks’ sections are each 3 5/8” wide x 5 5/8” h sizes, have marks made with ink, paper and ARS’s photos collages, bright colors of gouache, pencil, cut out areas and holes, and ink and other misc. media. Both artists worked together on the concepts and worked together and individually on the process/realization of all the pages within the bookwork. This is a bookwork that is read in all directions and in all combinations.



Ann R. Shapiro PhD, has had four solo exhibitions of oil painting and digital drawings at Ceres Gallery in New York City since 2002. Solo shows have also been at New Hampshire College, Manchester NH, and at the Deer Isle (ME) Artist's Assoc. She was included in juried and invitational group exhibitions in many venues in the US and Australia.

Dr. Shapiro has studied at many New York City Schools; NY University (Ph D.), Columbia University, Art Students League, School of Visual Arts, Manhattan Graphics Center and the New York Academy of Design. Her BS is from Simmons College, Boston MA.

Her works are collected at New Hampshire College, Manchester, NH, The Brooklyn Museum of Art Library, The Museum of Modern Art Library, Hebrew Union College, and the Whitney Museum Library all in NYC.

Marilyn R. Rosenberg has a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, from the Graduate School of Arts and Science, of New York U, NY, NY. and a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Studio Arts, from Empire State College, State U of NY.

She works alone and with collaborators, on asemic and visual poems, edition artists’ books and sculptural one of a kind bookworks, artists’ stamps, bookmarks, mail art and more. Many works are in group exhibitions and published in print and on the web, in zines, anthologies and exhibition catalogs.
